Introduction

 

The School of Languages and International Studies, University of Central Lancashire, is offering this MA in English for Professional Purposes in Hong Kong in collaboration with the School of Continuing and Professional Education, City University of Hong Kong.

In Hong Kong's competitive job market, there is a need for competent professionals who possess a high level of communication skills and English proficiency. Employees will be expected to possess a high level of knowledge about language variation across a range of business interactions and the ability to produce high quality written and spoken texts for effective communication.

This MA in English for Professional Purposes is designed for degree holders in various disciplines to improve their communication skills in English and enhance their career prospects. It is highly suitable for those who work in a range of professions from advertising to sales, public relations and management where a high degree of competence and expertise in language and communication is required.

The University of Central Lancashire is one of the largest universities in UK with over 25,000 students and 2,000 staff. The School of Languages and International Studies has long been recognized as one of the top teaching departments in the country for Modern Languages. It is rated seventh best in the last round of official inspections of the country's University language departments by assessors from the Higher Education Funding Council for England at 21 points out of a maximum possible 24. And, in the Guardian's recent National Review of University Modern Languages Departments, it figured in the top ten. As far as research is concerned, in the last research assessment exercise, the School was nationally and internationally recognized for its research in European Studies (HEFCE, RAE 2001).
