The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is located in Preston. With a history stretching back over 175 years, the University was officially established as a university in 1992. It is a dynamic and modern university offering over 3000 courses across six faculties. UCLan currently has over 25000 students at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, studying a wide range of programmes, and has partnership agreements with universities in many different countries around the world. In the most recent National Research Assessment Exercise (RAE, 2008), UCLan was accessed in 17 Subject areas and all were rated as having research of international excellence. The School of Languages and International Studies is a leader in the field of teaching English for professional purposes. It was rated as “excellent” in its most recent official inspection by UK Government authorities. It is a department that has received government commendation regularly through the UK Quality Assurance Agency for providing a learning environment of the highest quality.
