Speaker: Mr Albert So & Dr. Audrey Yeung

Mediation is one of the most cost-effective alternative dispute resolutions that has become increasingly common in Hong Kong since the civil Justice Reform in 2009. Taking hold of the trend, CityU Scope and HKMAAC are launching a Professional Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolutions program to equip participants with all-rounded professional knowledge and skills in the field. Do you want to find out more about it? Or you are looking for a chance to taste what mediation is like?  If so, our information seminar is the obvious pick for you. Not only can you find out more about the program, but also get a feel of mediation through case studies

The two case studies are as follows:

1.Resolving Consumer Disputes through Mediation- Case Studies on Travel, Beauty and Telecommunications Industries:

Nowadays, various types of disputes regarding service quality, prices, as well as product safety are common in consumer industries(e.g. traveling, beauty and telecommunications). In this seminar, some landmark dispute cases in Hong Kong will be discussed, so as to evaluate and understand why mediation can assist in resolving consumer disputes.

2.Turning Conflicts into Partnership: How to adopt mediation techniques in handing parenting and school conflicts effectively?

In these days, parenting and school conflicts tend to be inevitable and have become part of lives in society. Very often, emotions run high when dealing with differences, and, if conflicts and disagreements are handled inappropriately, the outcome would be destructive and might rarely be in the best interest of everyone.

In this seminar, different useful skills will be shared on how to apply mediation effectively in daily high confict scenarios. In addition, some common legal issues for parents and teachers/schools will also be discussed. Case studies will also be used to illustrate how mediation can assist in resolving various types of parenting and school disputes.
