We use our own system to classify our collections in the reference area.

For books, they are classified according the code assigned to each progrmame, e.g. BABM for BA (Hons) Business Management. For other materials, the type of learning material will be listed before the programme code, e.g., CF, BABM for a Compact Disc from BA Hons) Business Management Programme.

The 1st line indicates the programme title. This group of code is arranged in alphabetical letters.

For example:
BABM

BABM - BA (Hons) Business Management

The 2nd line indicates the level and category of the programme. The classification of category is adopted from the system of Dewey Decimal Classification (a 3-digit number code). This group of code is arranged in both alphabetical letters and Arabic numbers.

For example:

BA-381

BA - Bachelor of Arts
381 - Belongs to the category of "Commerce" in the Dewey Decimal Classification.

The 3rd line indicates a 5-digit code number registered in our System and this number will not be used repeatedly.

For example:

04167

The 4th line indicates the year of publication of the item.

For example:

2002

The 5th line indicates the number of volume and the number of copy for each item.

For example:

v.1 c.2
v.1 - the 1st volume of that item
v.2 - the 2nd copy of that item
