Elder Academy @ City University of Hong Kong
In support to the government’s initiative to encourage elders to lead an active and flourishing life, City University of Hong Kong joined the Elder Academy Schemes launched by the Labour and Welfare Bureau and the Elderly Commission in 2008.
During 2017/2018, the Elder Academy at City University will celebrate its 10th Anniversary. In the last decade, a total of 2,285 attendees participated 688 courses offered by the Elder Academy. In Semester A and Semester B each year, City University of Hong Kong will make available places in selected undergraduate courses for elderly students. Elderly students enroll as auditing students and will attend courses with CityU undergraduate students. There is no requirement on coursework and examinations. Furthermore, attending courses in the Elder Academy will not lead to any credits/ awards.
Each elderly student will be provided with a student card to access to learning facilities of CityU. There is a Buddy Scheme and a CityU student will be assigned as a buddy to assist elderly students to adapt to campus life.
