The programme Professional Certificate in Construction Management consists of two modules and is pitched at HKQF level 5 with 18 QF credits. The programme is also recongized by The Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM).
With the digitalisation of construction industry by Building Information System (BIM) as the central information platform of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and Design for Manufacturing Assembly (DfMA), it leads to the coming revolution of the whole system of traditional construction knowledge on design, quality management, time management, cost management, sustainability and safety management. Hence, the programme will also feature an emphasis on construction management education in the context of the future impacts brought by the 4th Industrial Revolution of digitalisation and innovation to the construction industry

This course is designed with reference to the professional assessment for the HKICM membership. It aims at enabling students to demonstrate knowledge, skills, behaviour and application in the following three domains of competence of a professional construction manager:
1. Technical Competence;
2. Management Competence; and
3. Commitment to Professionalism.

Programme Structure and Curriculum
This programme will last for six months of part-time study and comprise two modules with 18 QF credits. The medium of instruction is English supplemented with Chinese and the assessments will be delivered in English

CEF reimbursable modules
These courses have been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Continuing Education Fund. The mother programme [Professional Certificate in Construction Management] of these courses is recognized under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level 5).
Professional Recognition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will fulfil the requirement of:
- the professional assessment of route 1 entry (the normal route) of the membership and
- 60 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for HKICM membership.
Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)
- Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to:
- Apply the key concepts, theories, practice and principles of the key disciplines of construction management;
- Apply the management skills necessary to pursue careers in construction management within the built environment and in the industrial environment; and
- Explain the current role, responsibilities and professional ethics of construction managers in their own right and within the context of upholding professional practice in the built environment.

Class Schedule
Classes will be primarily conducted on Saturday afternoons, 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
Assessment and Award
The first module Strategic Construction Planning and Professionalism will be assessed by Individual Essay (50%) and Examination (50%). The second module Strategic Construction Management will be assessed by Group Project (50%) and Examination (50%).
To pass a module, students should obtain a minimum mark of 50% for each assessment component (project, individual essay and examination) and achieve an overall pass mark of 50% of the module. In order to be awarded the Professional Certificate in Construction Management, students have to pass all modules with attendance of 70% for each module.

Classes will be mainly scheduled in SCOPE Tsim Sha Tsui East Learning Centre OR City University of Hong Kong Kowloon Tong Campus

Holders of a Professional Diploma at HKQF Level 4 with a minimum of 120 QF credits in a cognate discipline plus a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a technical and/or managerial position in the building / construction / surveying industry may also be considered.
Cognate disciplines:
Building Studies, Construction Engineering & Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Architectural Design & Technology, Civil Engineering, or equivalent qualifications.
Semi-Cognate disciplines:
Building Information Modelling (BIM), Facilities Management, Building Services, Business, Finance, Management, Engineering related, Environmental Protection, Energy Management Service, Real Estate, Housing Management, Interior Design, Computer Science, Information Technology, Sciences, or equivalent qualifications.
