Programme Committee Members

 

The programme is developed by members from different backgrounds to incorporate views from the perspectives of industry, professionals and academics. The committee is consisted of representatives from relevant professional associations and the industry.

 

Classes

 

On average 9-12 contact hours per week. (3-4 weekday evenings or 2-3 weekday evenings plus 1 weekend afternoon)

 

Teaching may take place in CityU campus in Kowloon Tong, SCOPE Tsim Sha Tsui East Learning Centre or other SCOPE designated classrooms.

 

Medium of Teaching

 

English supplemented with Cantonese. Course materials and assessments will be in English.

Course Descriptors

Critical English Communication Skills Icon

This module aims to develop students’ critical thinking ability through reading and writing, and improve students’ writing and oral skills in workplace correspondence.


Leadership and Management Icon

This module aims to develop students’ appreciation of the attributes and skills required of a leader, the competence in managing people and knowledge in developing business strategy compatible with the environmental changes.


Principles & Essentials of Practices Icon

This module aims at equipping students of the knowledge and skills in understanding the basic principles underpinning facility and property management including law, community development, principles and tortuous responsibilities of property management.


Advanced Management Practices Icon

The aim of this module is to provide a greater in-depth understanding of procedures related to facility and property management, with increasing attention given to implementation and workable skills of various facilities and properties management including different aspects of property asset maintenance and provision within different asset portfolio.


Operations & Maintenance Icon

The aim of the module is to give students a sufficient understanding of the operations and maintenance of properties to enable them to play an efficient role when working with other professional disciplines in the managing and maintenance the facilities of the property. It is designed to give students a basic understanding the context of the property operation and maintenance associated with specific elements of a building.


Building Technology and Energy Icon

The aim of the module is to introduce the students to the subject of building services in general, with particular emphasis on the energy management and performances of the various types of buildings. It is designed to give students a basic knowledge, skills and regulations to facilitate the performance of the building services.


Legal Studies Icon

The aim of the module is to equip students with the ability to recognise and resolve legal problems within a framework of the substantive law and legal systems of Hong Kong. Furthermore, this module is also to develop students’ understanding of the general principles of the law of contract, the principles of the law of torts, and  the key legislations relating to landlord and tenant in both a commercial and residential context.  This is a comprehensive module on legal concerns of facility and property management.


Finance & Business Icon

This course aims to develop students’ ability to deliver Facilities and Property management services aligned with the organisation’s financial approach in the business world.

Programme Curriculum

This programme lasts for 1 year of part time study and comprises 8 modules with a total of 92 QF credits. Each module consists of 39 contact hours. It is conducted in English supplemented with Cantonese. Course materials and assessment will be in English.

Assessment and Award

 

Assessment includes coursework and examination.

 

Students who have passed all the required courses with an overall attendance of 70% or above will be awarded a Professional Diploma in Property Management by School of Continuing and Professional Education, City University of Hong Kong.

 

Professional Recognition

 

Member Cert. CIH (previously titled "Practitioner Member")

 

To be eligible to apply for Member Cert. CIH, students must:

 

  • be currently employed in property / facility management sector; AND

  • register as CIH student member at their own costs and grant initial approval from CIH at the commencement of the programme; AND

  • fulfill the course requirement and obtained the award of PDPM; AND

  • successfully complete of the Practical Experience Requirements (PER)# under supervision of a recognized supervisor.

Progression Opportunity

 

Upon successful completion of Professional Diploma in Property Management, students can proceed to Year 2 of Advanced Diploma in Facility and Property Management (ADFPM) . Students can apply for the following top-up degree programme in Hong Kong after successfully completed ADFPM:

Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated cities in the world.  The management of premises plays an important role on maintaining the quality of living for residents and the value of equity invested. Property management, undoubtedly, are indispensably in managing a premise.  The industry is expanding and the demand for a professional possessing the knowledge of property management would be increasingly high.

 

Supported by the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies, SCOPE has been offering Continuing Education Diploma in Property Management (CEDPM) for over 10 years. This programme is designed specifically for those working or wishing to pursue career in property / facility management industry.  Till now, there are more than 900 students graduated from this programme.  In 2012, the programme has been revamped, which enables graduates advance their study. To comply with new Award Title Scheme (ATS) under Qualifications Framework, this programme has been retitled as "Professional Diploma in Property Management (PDPM)".

 

Programme Objectives

The programme aims to equip students with the required technical knowledge, analytical abilities and management techniques for being a professional in the property management industry, and to provide students with general business and communication skills which facilitate them for career development and enable them to plan for further studies.

 

Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:

 

  1. demonstrate their understanding of the basic knowledge, personal attributes and competencies that will be required to develop a career in the property management;
  2. apply subject practical skills to develop student’s practical skills of the way facility, estate and property management companies operate;
  3. possess intellectual skills to apply a professional approach to meeting the corporate and client needs of this industry sector and also to inspire them for further studies in facility and property management.

  • have obtained level 2 or above in five subjects in HKDSE Examination (a maximum of two Applied Learning (ApL) subjects can be counted), including Chinese Language and English Language; or equivalent,  PLUS at least three years of relevant work experience; OR
  • have passed five subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English at level 2/ Grade E or equivalent,  PLUS at least two years of relevant work experience; OR
